What's on the Menu? Happy Yeast.

Grade 4 designed some investigations about yeast in class this week. The important concept I am trying to teach is making an investigation a fair test. That means we only change one factor. Students had a variety of factors they could choose to make their yeast "happy". We knew the yeast were happy if they produced a lot of bubbles of Carbon dioxide. Students could choose the type of yeast, the water temperature, the food for the yeast (flour or sugar), or the concentrations of yeast and food. This group choose water temperature. The yeast in the warm water produced so much Carbon dioxide that the bubbles went over the top of the test tube.
